Buttons, Buttons, So Many Buttons! (+ a Giveaway)

Welcome to Wednesday! Wednesday will be our Behind The Scenes day on the Mosh Posh blog. Today I want to talk about buttons. I have a lot of buttons. A lot is probably an understatement. As you can see I have buttons in a fish bowl, a cigar box and a ridiculous amount of bowls. There is a method to my madness, I promise.

The buttons that I use the most frequently (plus use for math lessons for Breuklyn, ha!) are in the Ziploc plastic container. It has a lid that I can twist on so my buttons can be portable, if necessary. The buttons in the bowls are from recent projects. Before I start working on a project, I pull out the colors that I am going to be working with. Once I am done I will organize them back into the smaller jars.

A lot of my buttons are from my grandmother. I love to pull out a pile of faded, scuffed ivory buttons. It reminds me of being a child sitting in the floor while Nan ironed my grandfather's dress shirts. She would ask me to find a specific button so that she could sew the extra onto his shirt. He was forever losing buttons it seemed.

How do you store your buttons? I would love to hear some new ideas! Leave a comment here with your ideas and I will choose one winner who will receive 100 of my favorite buttons! You have until Wednesday, September 9 to leave a comment. Have a great Wednesday!

Well, let's see...it appears from your photos that we have very similar button storage strategies. I keep mine in little jars, separated into color families. I keep my "vintage" buttons in a separate jar as they are super special to me. Giant buttons have thier own giant jar~

I absolutely love buttons too! A layout is just not finished unless it sports a few :-) I store my buttons in mason jars. I love the vintage feel of that type of storage. By the way, Love that September kit!

Buttons are one of my favorite embellishments. I have buttons in a mason jar, a shaker box, and a ziploc baggy. Unfortunately there is no rhyme or reason to my madness...my plan is to get a rhyme or reason soon :-)

LOVED looking at your buttons! Me? I don't have so many. But I store them in wide mouth Mason jars. I bought a dozen for about $7.00 at Walmart. What a deal, hun? I put one color in each jar. Currently, the blue jar is winning. The red jar is just about empty. Anyway, they're all lined up on my shelf.....sooooo pretty. Looks like a lot of us love this method. LOL

I store most of my buttons in three-level fishing tackle boxes (stackable, extendable!). Those that I paw through more frequently go into my former bead boxes (single-level, translucent top) by whatever criterion is deemed important (size, color, rarity).

But my FAVORITE buttons get pinned to things and displayed in some way: I have a teddy bear COVERED in buttons (it started with her smock but quickly absorbed the whole bear!) and a couple of felt wall hangings on which the girls have rearranged the buttons to make pictures.

Also: many buttons have made their "storage" homes in old board games (in lieu of lost playing pieces).

Estee, I don't have NEAR the button supply you do!! I have one set of those little MM jars you have. I have ALL of my buttons in those little jars. I pulled all the extra buttons I have collected over the years off of our clothes and added those as well. It really is a pathetic button supply!! LOL

oh I adore buttons, especially, vintage ones! Because, I like to look at them I store mine in clear containers and I put my newly aquired treasures in little bowl on my desk until they get replaced by newer finds!

Definitely love buttons! I bought those white stackable storage cubes from Michaels and one of the drawers has dividers and I keep mine in there by color. I just sorted them by color w/in the month because I dropped the drawer! My husband helped thank the lord because it took us over an hour! LOL

I love buttons, too. Just last night I altered an empty folgers instant coffee jar for my buttons. I turned out really cute!

I keep mine in Mason jars because that is the way my grandma always stored hers. I sort mine buttons by colors.

I adore buttons. I have a clear plastic shoe box that I bought. I've been using so many of them that it's only about 1/5 full right now which is low for me. I love the idea of using glass bottles with them sorted by color, but I have to wait until the kiddos are a little bit older. They would break them! I loved viewing your button collection!

i store them seperated by color in baby food jars.

Hi, Buttons are great, some are nearly a work of art in their own right... I sort them by colour into many small resealable bags. This way I can find them quickly and they don't take take up too much space.

Hi! Currently I store my buttons in stacking screw top containers. They work well for me because they are clear and they screw into one another. Eventually I would like to get a magnetic board and use the magnetic containers to store my buttons(to free up some table space) Wishful thinking :)

kyopuce September 5, 2009 at 2:28 AM

my buttons are in a box separate by color !
